The Edified Christian: Piers Plowman B. 1. 90.
The true Christian is identified as “a god by the Gospel, agrounde and olofte” on the basis of the Augustinian figure of Christ as the “head” in heaven and Christians in the world as the “feet” (Enar. in Ps. 90.2.5), which illuminates the career of Paul who, after being struck down for treading on the toes of the cosmic Christ, went on to define Christ as the “head” and the church as the “body” (I Cor. 12:12-27; Eph. 4:4-16, 5:23).
