From Piers Plowman to Peter Plogmann: On Translating Langland’s Poem into Norwegian

The translation-in-process is of the C text, which is not available in a modern version and which represents WL’s final intentions for the work. The translation, like the original, displays a rather liberal attitude to the question of meter. The translator aims for a version that is “dynamically equivalent” to the original, especially with regard to small linguistic units such as words, phrases, sentences, and metaphors taken from a field of life unfamiliar to modern readers.
