An Unrecognized Reference to Latin Satire in Langland’s Piers Plowman‘  , 

The passion of Saint Avereys’ (B.13.90-91) might refer to Saint Auaricia from the influential Latin satire Tractatus Garsiae (c. 1100), a satire of Bernard of Toledo’s embassy to Pope Urban II. The likelihood is increased by L’s pairing of the reference with ‘hir Pocalips’, an allusion to the antimonastic satire Apocalypsis Goliae.
