Gendre of a Generation’: Piers Plowman B.16.222.
Interprets B.16.220-22 in light of the theological meanings attached to generation (the act by which the Son is begotten of the Father in eternity) and procession (whereby the Spirit proceeds eternally from both the Father and Son), which contribute to WL’s parallel between Trinitarian relationships and the process of human generation, B. 16.222b (“before Iesu crist in heuene”) may be merely an asseveration, but it is appropriate that Abraham cites the Son “as witness to the ‘generacion’ by which and in which humankind subsists.”
